We offer a range of guided wildlife walks at different locations across Perthshire. We run half or whole day walks (or longer or shorter if required) and can focus on particular topics, for example plants or birds if required.

Half-day or Full-day Guided Walk

Enjoy having your very own Ranger to lead you on a guided wildlife walk in beautiful Perthshire! Choose from a variety of walks in Central Perthshire – ranging from Perth to Pitlochry and Blairgowrie to Dunkeld – or let us know what wildlife you really want to see and we will choose the best location to see it. We could go looking for squirrels or beavers in the hills above Dunkeld, dragonflies on the Cateran Trail or ospreys on the Blairgowrie path network. The scenery in this area is absolutely beautiful.

Key species: Red squirrel, cuckoo, dragonflies, beaver, red grouse, osprey.

PRICE: £150 half day or £250 full day (group booking only)
GROUP SIZE: Max 10 people
TIME: 3.5 hours half day or 6 hours full day

Wildlife Walk & Highland Boundary Distillery Tour

We bring you a truly wild day out – a wildlife walk-in distillery tour. We meet you at the Den of Alyth car park and take you on a guided walk through the stunning, ancient Den of Alyth exploring the wildlife and geology of the Alyth Burn, up Alyth hill through a diverse woodland habitat to the Highland Boundary distillery at Kirklandbank Farm. This is the only way for visitors to tour this distillery which produces Wild Scottish Spirits. You’ll be met with a cocktail (or mocktail for non-drinkers), learn how the distillery operates and be able to sample products. You’ll have some time to soak up the stunning views over Strathmore before returning on foot via Alyth Community Woodland to the Alyth Den car park. Price includes guiding by your experienced wildlife guide, a cocktail/mocktail; distillery tour and sample tasting, wildlife pond-dipping and feeding the chickens for young people (under 18 years) at the farm while adults tour the distillery. (For licensing reasons children are not allowed into the distillery). Sturdy shoes & waterproofs are required as the tour will take place if it rains.

We went on the tour on a Saturday evening and were well looked after by tour guide Joan, who was very knowledgeable about the beavers and knew the best spots to see them swimming, eating and going about their business. At the river, we saw them busy gathering food, a small green island moving along was a beaver with a large bunch of Japanese knotweed. They didn’t seem to be disturbed by our small, quiet group. We had a fantastic time and learned so much about these marvellous creatures, their habitats and their positive effects on the environment from our guide, Jean. She was so enthusiastic and knowledgeable and gave us different choices about where and how to see the beavers. We had quite a lot of sightings both in the water and out of it. Some great views of two beavers and, in the quiet spells, we saw goosanders, common sandpiper, dippers, sand martins and a kingfisher. There was an otter as well but I missed that. Danielle gave us a lot of information about the beavers themselves but also about the other local wildlife and plants. The entire experience from booking the trip and getting the directions to the offer of a dram of whisky at the end was excellent. Can be thoroughly recommended. read less
