If you love amphibians – and who doesn’t love a frog, newt or toad (toads are my favourites with those gorgeous orange eyes) – come and join us on one of our many upcoming events to help their populations.

As part of the Tayside Amphibian & Reptile Group (TayARG) programme, these events are run in conjunction with Tayside Biodiversity Partnership and funded through Perth & Kinross Countryside Trust’s Nature Restoration Fund.

Events are as follows:

Feb 14 – Kirkmichael Amphibian ladder workshop – help make ladders so wildlife can escape from roadside gullypots

Feb 21- Alyth Amphibian ladder workshop – help make ladders so wildlife can escape from roadside gullypots

March 12 & 13 – Pond management in Inchture

March 14 – Pond management in Abernethy

March 21 – Toads on Roads rescue workshop, Fortingall 5.30-8.30pm

April 4 – Toads on Roads rescue workshop, Bankfoot 5.30-8.30pm

The pond management days involve clearing out vegetation from overgrown ponds to create more open water, as well as wildflower planting for pollinators. These run from 10am-3pm and you are welcome to stay for a few hours or the whole day. Wear wellies & waterproofs and bring lunch & a hot drink. We’ll supply the biscuits!

We are setting up a Toads on Roads patrol in Fortingall and Bankfoot to rescue amphibians crossing roads from their hibernation to breeding sites in late winter. The training involves ID, health & safety & a practical rescue session. More details about Toads on Roads can be seen here: https://www.froglife.org/what-we-do/toads-on-roads/

These events are covered by ARC (Amphibian & Reptile Conservation) insurance.

If you’d like to help, please email with your phone number to book your place on taysidepondsproject@gmail.com, so we know how many tools and biscuits to bring.
