Please join us on a muddy (but fun!) pond management volunteer day over the next few weeks to benefit wildlife including dragonflies, toads, frogs and newts. We will remove vegetation from overgrown ponds and plant native wildflowers to improve the habitat for local wildlife. Wear warm clothes, wellies, waterproofs & bring gardening gloves – come for a few hours or the whole day.

Thousands of amphibians are killed on roads every year in our area in late winter and early spring as they migrate from their hibernation grounds to their breeding ponds. We are setting up a number of Toads on Roads Rescue Patrols to train volunteers to rescue amphibians from their road crossings and relocate them safely on the other side of the road, record what species they see and what numbers.
The training involves amphibian ID – Rachael from Amphibian and Reptile Conservation will be there to help with training ID, plus health and safety, recording your rescues and a practical rescue session close by. The Murthly workshop is taking place on the 15th of Feb, Stanley on March the 8th and a Bankfoot date is still to be confirmed.
