I think we can say that spring has well and truly arrived – the Ospreys have been back at Loch of the Lowes for a few weeks, I saw my first Blackcaps,  Swallows and Sand martins last Monday and was very pleased to spot and hear my first Willow warbler yesterday. I took this video (bottom of post) of it in the trees in the park in Rattray – what a beautiful song…. and with a Chiffchaff in the background too!

Our summer programme of beaver safaris has got off to a wonderful start with brilliant sightings of our lovely beaver family and otters too. A young otter was huffing and puffing at us from just 2 metres away – below the ledge from which we watch the beavers – which gave our clients a real treat at the weekend!

I want to say thank you to all the volunteers who helped out with various pond and amphibian tasks over the winter including; improving ponds in Blairgowrie, Perth, Murthly, Huntingtower and Abernethy; training to set up Toad Rescue Patrols in Murthly, Bankfoot and Stanley; two amphibian ladder workshops, with new ladders now in place near Stanley, Pitlochry and Blairgowrie.

Look at these amazing photos of the frogs and toads using the amphibian ladders on the first day they were put in – it’s heart warming to see and also to know that any animal that falls in can now get back out.

What is our latest news? Well, you may have seen that our social media has changed a bit and we are sending out newsletters more frequently. It’s all a bit more sophisticated due to Rosie re-joining us and bringing her far superior media management skills to play.

If you are looking for native wildflowers to help the wildlife of your garden or local greenspace then please get in touch. Our Celtica Wildflowers are all from Scottish seeds, grown in peat free compost and are as sustainably grown as it’s possible to be. We have pond edge species ready to go so please get in touch if you’d like any of these, or meadow species.

Water avens ready to go

We are running a whole variety of tours and activities this summer and look forward to seeing you – whether spotting beavers from a canoe on the Tay or enjoying the bird life on our Angus Coastal Tours – we will do our utmost to make sure you have the best time with us.
