I think we can say that Spring has well & truly arrived with the arrival of Swallows, House martins, Willow warblers and Blackcaps. Their beautiful songs cheers up the chilliest walk. Especially the Blackcap, I am very fond of the Blackcap’s wonderful warbling. Have a listen to their song here.

The Ospreys at Loch of the Lowes have laid their eggs and it won’t be long until the first chick hatches. We had wonderful sightings of an Osprey on the nesting platform at Bamff Ecotourism on our Half day beaver safari last week (pics on this page taken by Chris Dixon). That was an especially good tour actually, as we saw 6 beavers and 2 otters later on at the river and they were Chris’ first ever otters! It’s always a great feeling to help people discover new wildlife – whether beavers, otters, kingfishers or ospreys – the excitement they bring is one of the things that makes my job so worthwhile.

We have completed Tayside Ponds Project Phase 2, where we worked on a number of ponds around Perth to improve them for wildlife, and now have a couple of Amphibian Ladder workshops to run. The first one is this Sunday (30th April) in Guildtown from 10am and the second one is on the 28th of May. We had great fun at our last two ladder workshops, with lots of very keen young helpers, so hope to keep the fun theme going, as well as fitting lots of ladders to help save hundreds of amphibians and small mammals.

Since changing over from our winter to summer programme of beaver tours, we have had brilliant sightings of our favourite large furry rodents down at the river. On every trip we have seen between three and six individuals, along with other river wildlife such as the otters mentioned above, goosanders, dippers, kingfishers and sandpipers.

And our Beaver Canoe Safaris start next week, with our first trip down the Tay from Aberfeldy on the 7th of May. Please contact Beyond Adventure to make the booking We continue to get great reviews on Trip Advisor, Google and Facebook which is always good to see as it helps us know we are doing the right thing.

We look forward to seeing you soon on a wildlife tour in Perthshire soon! Daniele
